Job Description Senior Buyer/Materials Planner

Overall purpose of the role;
Purchase goods, materials, and services to ensure that the company operational needs are met,
considering price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply.

Requirements;
 Experience in using an ERP system and Excel.
 Commercially and financially aware.
 Knowledge of the holistic supply chain.
 Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective and productive relationships with key
stakeholders and suppliers.
 Strong negotiation, communication & interpersonal skills.
 Strong proven problem-solving abilities.
 Ability to plan and deliver against deadlines.
 Keen attention to detail and accuracy.

Job duties;
 Purchase goods, materials, components, or services in line with specified cost, quality, and
delivery targets
 Ensure continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply
problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations
 Manage suppliers to reduce costs, improve quality, control inventories, and ensure a timely
and cost-effective flow of materials
 Support the development of creative and innovative procurement processes.
 Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs & eliminate wastes where
possible
 Support the development of ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiency, add
value, aid business performance and work towards a strategy of continuous improvement
 Develop ideas and strategies to improve the purchasing portfolio and purchasing standards
 Monitor and report key performance metrics, including standard costing, purchase price
variance, inventory shortages and supplier performance
 Negotiate contracts, improved prices, and terms of business with suppliers and review
opportunities to make business savings
 Monitor stock levels and manage inventories, to ensure continuous productions while
maximising turns.
 Develop mutually beneficial and effective relationships with colleagues to ensure and
explore alternate sources for materials
 Assess tenders and quotations from potential suppliers
 Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery or invoice issues
 Implementation & utilisation of lean principles
